Corporate Tennis League
Match Rules
The teams will abide by the Rules of Tennis and the Code for un-officiated
matches. Copies of "Friend at Court" which includes both
can be obtained at the USTA store for $5.00 on usta.com.
All team matches consist of :
1 Women’s Singles
1 Men’s Singles
1 Women’s Doubles
1 Men’s Doubles
2 Mixed Doubles
All matches are played on two courts assigned to the two teams
by the league coordinator on-site before the match. As one match
finishes, teams move on to the next match on that court as soon
as players are available from their previous match. Thus 3 matches
are played on each court during the evening. A minimum of 4 players,
2 of each sex, is required to compete in all matches. If a team
only has one player of a particular sex, that player will be allowed
to play both mixed doubles matches, one after the other, and thus
default only the women's or men's doubles match.
2 cans of balls will be supplied for each 2 hour team match.
All matches begin with a ten minute warm-up for all players.
After that there are no warm-ups. Each match consists of 8 no-ad
games. The receiving team decides which player will receive serve
on the no-ad point. At 4-4 a regular tie-breaker will be played.
All matches are worth 1 point, and points are cumulative throughout
the season. All teams are sent blank scorecards with the final schedule.
Please try to remember to print it out and fill it in through the
evening. Please make sure you turn in your scorecard to the league
coordinator who is present at the match.
The first matches played will be the Men's and Women's singles,
followed by Men's and Women's Doubles, followed by the Mixed Doubles.
If both teams agree, they may change this order.
Substitutions can be made at any point in a match. A player who
has already been substituted for cannot re-enter that same match.
If a captain is playing a match, the player(s) on the other court
will have the final word on whether they will be replaced. Coaching
is allowed on change-overs only.
The results page is updated each week. You will be e-mailed a copy
and also results are also posted once a week to the www.metrotennis.com
web site. At the end of the season, if there is a tie in matches,
then total games will be counted as the tiebreaker.
The top teams from each of the three intermediate divisions and
the second place team with the most points will meet in a semi-final
playoff. Those winning teams will play off for the Intermediate
League Championship at the end of season party, as will the top
two teams in the advanced division. All players competing in the
playoffs must have played in at least one match for that team during
the regular season.
The champion of the advanced league will receive the Corporate League
Champion trophy. The winner of the intermediate league will receive
the Intermediate Corporate League Champion trophy. Both trophies
will be displayed at the companies' respective headquarters until
the end of the following season, when they will be relinquished
to the new champions.
The winners of the intermediate divisions will move up to the advanced
division the following season.
If a team captain is having trouble with their roster for a match
please contact Debra Leffe. Substitutes are available and looking
forward to participating. At least 24hrs notice is requested. .
Substitutes may only play for one team a season. (We try not to
charge a substitute for the evening. If individual team members
have paid for the entry fee instead of the company, and they expect
a refund, then they should try to get their own substitute).
Please join us for food and drinks after the matches. All guests
welcome!
